Getting into the Spirit of Things: A Season of Support

And just like that… the cold weather is here, and winter is looming. Wyoming can be a tough place to live, with harsh conditions and sparse resources spread out, sometimes thinly, across the state. But Wyomingites know how to work together to overcome hardship, and bolster each other through the toughest of times.

Wondering how you can best support your community this season? The Hughes Charitable Foundation reached out to a few Wyoming organizations to find out what kinds of opportunities especially make a difference this time of year.

The fall and winter is a great time for folks to get involved with One22 Resource Center by hosting food drives, volunteering at the Jackson Cupboard and/or participating in our Holiday Gift Drive. One22 has launched a food drive campaign, "Stock It Up," that encourages folks to host a single-item or two-item type of food drive and has a special goal of reaching 15,000 pounds of donated food by the end of the year. One22's Holiday Gift Drive, which will be announced in early November, pairs donors with individuals and families who need assistance purchasing holiday gifts. More information about how to get involved with One22 can be found at one22jh.org.

This time of year, Natrona County Meals On Wheels starts to collect donations for Christmas gifts for our homebound senior clients. We put together gift bags that are delivered with the meals a few days before Christmas. These gift bags contain items such as lotions, socks, slippers, candy, puzzles, snacks, soaps, chapstick, cookies, hats, gloves, scarves, large print puzzle books, and other items like these.

Natrona County Meals On Wheels also delivers meals on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. This is important for our clients that have no one to share the Holidays with and are alone. We can always use Volunteers to help deliver meals on these days.

As we approach the holiday season, let’s remember that giving back isn’t just about financial contributions; it’s about fostering a spirit of support and solidarity. Every dollar and every hour spent volunteering helps create a brighter future for our neighbors. Together, we can make this Fall a season of generosity and hope!
