About Us

Based in Wyoming, the Hughes Charitable Foundation is guided by our board of directors. We are committed to supporting organizations that are directly helping those across the state and region who need it most.

During Wayne’s surfing career, he learned a phrase that resonated far beyond the waves: the impact zone. To be caught in this zone is to be trapped, repeatedly overwhelmed by one crashing wave after the next. Unable to reach shore, unable to swim further out — caught in an untenable cycle of crises.

Our philanthropy is focused on supporting the poor, hungry, oppressed, imprisoned, housing insecure, veterans, women and children, and Indigenous communities. Over the past years, we have supported social service organizations in the realms of domestic violence, foster care, adults with disabilities, mental illness, food insecurity, single mothers, youth programming, and scholarships.

Energized by love and faith, and endlessly inspired by the vibrant community around us, the Hughes Charitable Foundation is dedicated to sharing the blessings that we are so grateful to have received.

The Impact Zone

Many people in Wyoming and beyond live in the impact zone: living paycheck to paycheck, lingering one accident, illness, or natural disaster away from destitution.
It is here that we are called to serve.

History

As a child, Wayne visited Jackson Hole with his family. Unsurprisingly, he fell in love and vowed to return. In 2017, he purchased a home in the valley. Soon after, he and his wife Molly relocated to Wyoming permanently.

With their move, the Hughes Charitable Foundation left its roots in California and was reestablished in Wyoming.

Since 2017, the Hughes Charitable Foundation has supported more than 300 Wyoming-based organizations that serve those who need it most.
