History and Community Collide: A Chat with the Wyoming State Fair
It’s a special time of year… fair season! And Wyoming is home to twenty-three counties that know how to do fairs up right. The sounds of laughter and the rattling of derbies mingle with the smells of horses and fried foods to create ambiances and memories unlike any other.
But there is one 100 year old tradition that stands out amongst these beloved community events: the Wyoming State Fair. The Hughes Charitable Foundation reached out to the Wyoming State Fairgrounds and Events Complex to find out just a little more about this legendary celebration.

What do state fairs provide for their communities?
State fairgrounds provide their communities with a place to come together to celebrate agriculture, community, and lifestyle events. The events hosted on fairgrounds year-round contribute to the local economy by attracting visitors to their communities.
How has the Wyoming State Fair changed over the last 120 years? What kind of historical significance does the Wyoming State Fair have for our community?
The Wyoming State Fair began in 1905 when four families deeded their properties to create a place for the celebration of all things Wyoming. Since then, the state fair has continually adapted to societal changes to remain relevant while honoring our rich history. It is our mission to curate and preserve this history for future generations. For many visitors, the state fair is a "homecoming" — a cherished annual event where they reunite with friends and family, partake in traditions, create lasting memories, and celebrate agriculture, education, youth, and the Western lifestyle.
What are some favorite events or vendors at the Fair?
