Using the Power of Philanthropy to Strengthen Wyoming: Spotlight on WyoFunders

At the heart of lasting change is collaboration. In Wyoming, one organization exemplifying this principle is WyoFunders, an affinity membership group operating under the umbrella of the Wyoming Nonprofit Network (WNN). Bringing together philanthropists, private family foundations, and community foundations, WyoFunders harnesses the collective power of philanthropy to address Wyoming’s most pressing challenges.

Members of WyoFunders include a diverse group of foundations and organizations, such as the Hughes Charitable Foundation, John P. Ellbogen Foundation, Wyoming Community Foundation, Daniels Fund, and Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, among others. Together, these members collaborate to share ideas, identify community needs, and strengthen the state’s nonprofit sector.

Big Solutions Start with Open Conversations

Open dialogue is central to WyoFunders’ mission. Legislative breakfasts, receptions, and collaborative gatherings provide opportunities to bring critical issues to light and create meaningful connections between philanthropists, nonprofit leaders, and policymakers.

“For lasting change to happen, we need to work together, listen deeply, and stay focused on what Wyoming families truly need,” says Molly Hughes, Executive Director of the Hughes Charitable Foundation and WyoFunders member. “It’s in these conversations, across foundations and nonprofits, that we discover solutions with real impact.”

A Legacy of Advocacy and Connection

WyoFunders partners closely with the Wyoming Nonprofit Network, which amplifies, cultivates, and advocates for the state’s more than 4,000 nonprofit organizations. Together, they have funded a full-time Director of External Affairs to support legislative advocacy, and ensure Wyoming communities have the resources and attention they need.

Previous events, such as the 2025 Legislative Breakfast and Reception, demonstrate WyoFunders’ commitment to engagement: where 25 legislators joined 65 nonprofit and foundation representatives to discuss Wyoming’s priorities. This collaborative approach ensures that the voices of both the philanthropic and nonprofit communities are heard in shaping policy and action.

Looking Ahead: WyoFunders Summit 2025

The upcoming 3rd Annual WyoFunders Summit, taking place October 22–24 in Sheridan, promises another dynamic opportunity for discussion, learning, and networking. The summit brings together philanthropists and foundations from across Wyoming to share ideas, spark innovation, and build stronger communities.

“As funders, we know that lasting change only happens when we work together, listen deeply, and stay focused on what Wyoming families truly need,” emphasizes Molly Hughes.

WyoFunders demonstrates that philanthropy is not just about giving - it’s about connecting, learning, advocating, and acting together to create lasting impact for all Wyomingites.
